We previously covered Madison Cawthorn, North Carolina's US Congressman. Back in 2020, he shared a story with a right-wing website: Daily Caller. Basically he made a trip to Russia with some friends, met a US Army captain at a casino in St. Petersburg, Russia. This army captain later got him to a faux Crossfit competition, where he met his later (and now soon-to-be-ex) wife, Cristina.
No, I don't think Cawthorn is a deep-cover Russian agent, or his soon-to-be-ex wife was a Russian honeypot operation. I think Cawthorn got sorry storytelling skills and got his timeline mixed up a bit leading people to see what's not really there.
No, I don't think he planned this as a verbal trap to embarrass his critics.
He's got way too much ego for that.
