App Discovery: PEACE and EqualizerAPO for Windows -- what Microsoft should have included

When you think about it, the sound system in Windows is extremely primitive. It doesn't even have treble/bass, much less an equalizer! 

That's where the free EqualizerAPO comes in. Yes, it's free. Yes, it works in almost ALL versions of Windows, including latest Win11. 

However, EqualizerAPO doesn't have a graphical interface, which is where PEACE comes in. This gives you EQ presets, hotkeys, and more so you can switch setup on the fly.

To People Seeking Help on Craigslist: Leave a PROPER email!

For a second time in 2 months, I tried to reply to someone with a short computer gig on Craigslist, and found an "error" and was unable to reply. 

First time, someone was asking for a little help on a Coursera data science course I had taken before, and I was not going to charge a lot. $5, $10, very reasonable. Except when I click on reply, I got "an error has occurred".  Reload the page, retry, same thing. Cannot reply. 

Today, I ran into the same thing. 

A guy wants to rip his own DVD back into some sort of computer video so he can upload it to a video host. This is very easy if you have your own DVD drive... Handbrake can do it easily in 15 minutes (more if you have to transcode). And that's free. Then it's just a matter of upload, so I won't even charge the guy, just send him a link so he can do it himself. 

Same problem. Click on it, "an error has occurred". Cannot reply. 

So sorry if you end up paying somebody for something you can look up in a few minutes and do it in a few more minutes. But I can't help you because CL keeps throwing me errors.

Let this article explain what is KIRF, shanzhai, and how they are affecting the Chinese economy.

China, with the recent Foxconn suicides, has garnered international attention and highlights it as a source of cheap labor to feed the world economy. However, China is also famous for being the clone factory of the world. People in China has no respect for "copyright", and this had lead to a ton of commercial friction between it and other companies and countries.

Microsoft recently is basically refusing to expand its operation in China, citing lack of intellectual property protection. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer stated recently that even though China has about 10-15% of global PC market, only 1% of Microsoft's revenue is coming from sales in China, when theoretically it should be proportional. Furthermore, Chinese government has recently announced a procurement policy that supposedly rewards "native innovation", which is interpreted as favoring "domestic clones" of foreign products. it was so alarming even US Secretary of Treasury Tim Geitner had to make a statement that he had talked to his counterpart in China and the policy will be modified and clarified.

Has China been turned into a country of cheap labor and clones? Let us check into the the phenomenon of KIRF, shanzhai, and the problem's roots.

Apparently, you can bring your PC to a Japanese Shrine to have it blessed and hopefully free of BSODs.
