Australian news reported that a COVID denier over there caught COVID, and was rushed to hospital while still insisting he merely had a cold. He's now critical (but still hanging on). But that's hardly the crazy story. Back in January, COVID deniers are alleging "empty hospitals", and
one tried to remove a critically ill patient from a hospital in Surrey, UK.
There is also a website
sorryantivaxxers.com that keeps track of news reports based on user submissions. However, it does not provide a count. The Australian news reported that the website can't keep up with submissions, but I was not able to confirm this.
But the point is there are so many unvaccinated people infected with COVID clogging up the hospitals that...
States planning to or already rationing care to those who really need it
People suffering from OTHER ICU-required conditions are dying
To put it plainly, people's refusal to get vaccinated is clogging up hospitals, leading to overloaded ICUs and deaths of people who should otherwise survive.
So why are people refusing to get vaccinated? Mainly boils down to "you can't tell me what to do!" Because there is no valid scientific reason to do so.
The situation was certainly not helped when Nicki Minaj (yes, the singer) tweeted that
her cousin's friend got swollen balls from the COVID vaccine so bad that his fiancee called off the wedding. No, I'm not making this up. I have no problem with Nicki not showing up at the Met Gala as she refused to get vaxxed and she doesn't want to show up. But when she tweeted that she's "doing my own research" and started relaying third- or fourth-party hearsay, it's clear that she's a vaccine denier.
Makes you wonder who's coming up with these bogus ingredients for these antivaxxers.
First it was hydroxychloroquine, which was an anti-parasite drug that's also an immunosuppressant... Something you do NOT need when fighting a virus. And in fact, can make it worse.
Then it's ivermectin, which is again, an anti-parasite drug, mostly used for animals. Again, no effect on virus. It's also in a lot of canine and feline anti-parasite meds.
Now it's betadine (i.e. iodine), which is a topical antiseptic that has, no surprise, no effect on virus. But this is something you can buy in your local pharmacy.
I wonder if whoever comes up with these bogus recommendations is going for grossness. Would they pick a suppository next?
But there is no denying the absolute truth:
The pandemic will NOT end until there are no more people to infect.
That can happen only two ways: you can get vaccinated, or you can stay unvaxxed, and take your chances of getting infected then take your chances of hospitalization then take your chance of dying from COVID.
Before you choose, I suggest you go back up and read the bits about how COVID has already clogged up hospitals and your local hospital may have no place to put you when you need it. It's already reported that
25% of the ICUs in the entire US are now 95% full.
Then I suggest you read the news I posted a few days ago, about how a
Texas girl died within HOURS of getting a fever. She complained of a fever at 2AM. Her grandma gave her some children's Tylenol and put her to bed. By 7AM she's dead. Autopsy confirmed it was COVID. Kali's mother was isolating at home the day before, from COVID. Kali was only 4 years old.
And remember that young children cannot be vaccinated against COVID yet, only those 12 and older. While pediatric use may be approved soon, it may not come soon enough.
So the only way to protect young children is to mask them, and vaccinate older people around them. NOT to ignore the risks and pretend everything is kum-baya.
Just what reasons are preventing you from getting vaccinated? Think about that, are they REALLY valid reasons?
So now, make your choice. If not for you, then for the children.
Don't be a COVIDiot.
